Christmas Greetings from Jerry and Shirley
Time seems to go by faster every year. Before you know it, the year is gone and you wonder what you have accomplished. Where did the time go and did I use it wisely!? I certainly hope so! One day we were stupid kids trying to get Julius to pee on the electric fence and the next thing you know we are Grandparents trying to influence our grandkids. (We only teach the good stuff to them.)
This year has seen some changes in our family group. Shirley and I celebrated our 42nd anniversary in November and we are still together. The day after our anniversary Shirley’s wedding ring broke. Is this an omen? I don’t think so! It was just old like we are getting. We still get along with each other.(most of the time.)
Michelle and Chris are still living in Fort St. John BC. They are trying to sell their acreage and move further south into Alberta (Calgary area) where there would be more work opportunities in the oil industry for Chris. Michelle was working for Canada Post in FSJ. She injured her back on the job and is currently on disability leave. Nicholas is in grade 6 and does very well in school. He is practicing to be a teenager and is doing very well at that. According to his Mom, he already knows everything! Natasha is in grade 3 and enjoys going to school. She wants to move to Coaldale so she can see Grandma every day! (We call her Grammas’ little wart)
Kathy and JP (John Paul) are still living in Coaldale. JP works for McCain Foods and has been there for 7 years. He still plays in a band and music is still his main passion in life. Kathy is a stay at home Mom and babysits for Mike and Jen. She helps Shirley with her Avon business and also sells Usbourne books at Home Parties. William is in grade 1 and is learning to adapt. He is autistic and has some difficulties from time to time. He is very entertaining because you just don’t know what he is going to do or say next. Benny is in Pre-school and if you ask him or Logan what they do in school they will say “we just play”.
Mike and Jen are still in Coaldale as well. They both started new jobs this year. Jen is working for a lab in Lethbridge doing various types of analysis on a variety of agricultural products. Mike is working for the Ryder Corporation in Lethbridge and is supervising the repair and maintenance on a fleet of leased highway trucks (about 80 units) for a transport company. (H & R Transport). They are both very busy. Alex is in grade 2 and would rather play “Army” with his friends than go to school. He tolerates school but refuses to sing in class. Logan is in pre – school with Benny and only “plays in school”. I think they must be learning something because they have long discussions about a variety of topics that only they seem to understand!
I feel a little bit sorry for the teachers at Jenny Emery School because there are 4 de Jager kids in the same school at the same time. This has the potential to be a recipe for disaster at any given moment!

Shirley is still selling Avon and has a loyal group of customers and friends. This keeps her quite busy. The grandkids all love her dearly and would all like to move in with us ((her) (Grampa not so much)). Gramma always has candies and is a little bit of a “push-over”. Grampa just yells at them and tells them to go play outside. I am still working although I can retire with a full pension as of November.I still enjoy teaching both automotive and heavy duty students and plan to keep going for a couple of more years. When the vacuum cleaner at home quits working I will think about retiring. We still have our place in Riondel and spend as much time as possible there in the summer.
In closing we would like to wish you a Merry Christmas and a healthy and prosperous New Year!
May the Lord bless you and keep you and yours safe and healthy.
Jerry and Shirley
